Art effortlessly slips into the landscape of this collector’s residence.  The design incorporates the extension of architectural lines into the living landscape and provides seamless transitions between interior and exterior.  Three distinct rooms are created–a striking autocourt, a contemplative Zen water garden and a minimalist southern terrace.

Lines of purple sage highlight areas of native grass and become a feature of the autocourt.  Paving patterns drawn from the architecture meld indoor and outdoor while rammed earth walls enclose the autocourt and provide separation from neighbors.  As if walking on water, a series of stepping-stones lead from an interior hallway and through the Zen garden reflecting pool.  Blades of bamboo leaves complement robust hostas and cast shadows on the rammed earth walls.

This project is on the cover of the July-August 2010 issue of Mountain Living magazine and was previously featured in The New 100 Houses book and the March 2009 issue of Metropolitan Home magazine, among other publications. Zen Captured is the recipient of the 2007 Colorado Chapter of the ASLA Merit Award and the 2006 Denver Chapter of the AIA Design Award.  Architecture: Studio B Architects.
