california in the rockies

Located on a small Aspen, Colorado lot, this landscape harmonizes perfectly with the newly constructed home. The continuation of architectural lines into the landscape and seamless transitions between interior and exterior environments are key features.  Strong orthagonal lines of square pavers and linear dogwood hedges create the structure for ornamental grasses and perennial beds.  Trees and shrubs, layered against a carefully detailed fence, create privacy for the dipping pool and spa.  The house addresses the street with an interrupted alignment of street trees that create viewing slots to reveal glimpses of the house while maintaining privacy.  An environmentally friendly stormwater swale, planted with sweeps of sedum, coral bells and other perennials, catches runoff from an entire city block.

This project is featured in Landscapes that Work, the Spring 2008 issue of Estates West magazine and the September 2009 issue of Metropolitan Home magazine.  This project also is the recipient of the 2006 Colorado Chapter of the ASLA Merit Award.
